Oscar Nominations 2023 Announced

On March 24th 2023, Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams gathered in front of millions around the world to announce the 2023 Academy Award Nominations. An event that fans had waited 12 months to hear.

2022 was a great year for film and the strong nominations supported that. So when it was time for the Academy to choose their favourite pictures of the year, it can't have been an easy decision.

One of the most notable moments of the event was the fact that box-office hit "Everything Everywhere All At Once" took the 2023 Academy Awards by storm as it led for most nominations with a total of 11. Closely followed by "The Banshees Of Inisherin" and "All Quiet On The Western Front".

Everything Everywhere All At Once is a sci-fi adventure with deep emotional context that is destined to move audiences emotionally and take them on a thrilling rollercoaster ride of fun from the first minute to the last. With its total of 11 nominations, it is certain to be one of the favourites to win the prestigious Best Picture award on the big night.

One of the more surprising moments of the night was Paul Mescal's inclusion in the Best Actor nominations for his work in the film "Aftersun". Mescal is alongside his fellow 4 male actors as first-time nominees. In regards as to who will win the award own Oscar night, the competition is still in question.

Michelle Williams received her 5th Academy Award nominations for her work in Steven Spielbergs personal biopic "The Fabelmans". Williams has been nominated 4 times prior to this year, but is still without a win to her name. Could 2023 finally be her time?

Alongside Michelle Williams are first-time nominees Ana de Armas and Michelle Yeoh, who unlike Michelle Williams, are first time nominees.

De Armas' performance as Marilyn Monroe in the Netflix movie "Blonde" was the productions only nomination after failing to impress critics upon it's release. Having said that, de Armas' portrayal of the iconic Monroe was still strong enough to earn her her first Oscar nomination.

One of the best films of the year, "Top Gun: Maverick", was shown plenty of love by Oscar voters as the production picked up a total of 5 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. Despite this, Maverick himself, Tom Cruise, was shown no love in the Best Actor category.

One of the films that surprisingly underperformed the expectations of the Academy was Damien Chazelle's Babylon. It has been a total of 6 years since La La Land made history as the joint most nominated film at the Academy Awards. But this time round, Chazelle's Hollywood epic starring Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie only picked up three nominations, including Best Costume Design and Best Original Score.
