Emma Stone Is Brought Back To Life In "Poor Things" Teaser
Earlier this week, we were gifted with the first insight to Yorgos Lanthimos’ next feature film, “Poor Things”, through the form of a teaser trailer.
Before this trailer, there was, and still is, very little to know about this film. The most vital piece of information is that it is based on a novel of the same title, written by Alasdair Gray in 1992.
For fans of the book, they will have every right to be excited by the recent teaser of the movie, but for those who are unaware of the story, they however will be scratching their heads clueless as to what they have just witnessed.
And that’s a fair emotion to be feeling after watching this teaser.
To fill the latter in, the story of “Poor Things” revolves around a woman named Belle Baxter (Emma Stone), who is brought back to life by scientist: Dr Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe), when he implants the brain of her unborn child, in place of her own.
This is the essence of the story, but around this concept and at the heart of the book is actually a touching love story between two characters.
On various sites from across the web, Poor Things has been described as a Science-Fiction/Comedy/Romance. Which is far more genres than your average film tends to entail. But if you are familiar with Lanthimos’ work over the past few years, average is the least to expect.
Yorgos Lanthimos is a Greek Film Director and Writer who has gifted us with critically-acclaimed films such as The Lobster, The Killing of A Sacred Deer, and The Favourite over the past few years.
Emma Stone worked with the Greek filmmaker on the set of The Favourite (2019), in which she received an Academy Award nomination for her work. So, it wouldn’t be ridiculous to assume that she will be looking to repeat that this time around with “Poor Things”.
Whilst the trailer itself only provides us with a 35-second sneak peek into the contents of this movie, it doesn’t take a genius to discover that this film looks uniquely intriguing. Throughout these 35 seconds, there is a wide variety of shots and scenes that leave the viewer not knowing where to look – exactly what you want in a teaser as short as this one.
