Emerald Fennell's "Saltburn" Set To Open London Film Festival

As the annual event known as the British Film Festival begins to loom closer and closer, questions begin to become asked regarding what movies audiences will have the pleasure of seeing.

It has recently been announced that the curtain raises for the event will come through the form of Emerald Fennell's second directorial feature, "Saltburn".

Fennell is right off of the back of her Academy Award win for Best Original Screenplay for her work on Promising Young Woman. The actress-turned-director's first directorial feature.

Saltburn is set to receive it's international release on the opening night of the annual event on October 4th, due to take place at London's Royal Festival Hall.

The film stars Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi as the two male leads. Set in the mid-2000's, the story follows Oliver (Keoghan), a young man studying at Oxford university.

As he struggles to find any real purpose as well as real friendships during his time at the university, he finds himself drawn into the world of fellow student, Felix Catton (Elordi), who invites Oliver to spend the summer with him at Saltburn, his unique family's sprawling estate.

If you thought a duo of Keoghan and Elordi wasn't enough, the two young actors are joined by talented names such as Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver and even Carey Mulligan who will reunite with Fennell after starring in Promising Young Woman, back in 2020.

"It is a festival that inspired me so much growing up, one that I followed excitedly from my bedroom on the other side of London. It feels extra-special that Saltburn, this very British tale of excess, is able to make its international debut at the wonderful BFI." - Emerald Fennell
